Stories are windows into other realities.

Carren has led the development of engaging content in various formats for a fragmented audience. She understands audiences who read articles, watch videos, swipe through Instagram stories, and comment on Facebook posts, while of course going about their daily lives. She has spearheaded a number of content plans that span genres and platforms.

Some Projects

Shaped a digital experience that consists of 30 articles and embedded maps for “A People’s Guide to Orange County” in collaboration with authors Elaine Lewinnek, Thuy Vo Dang and Gustavo Arellano. “A People’s Guide to Orange County” is an alternative tour guide that documents sites of oppression, resistance, struggle and transformation in Orange County, California.

Spearheaded ongoing editorial content development that explores the diversity of the Southern Califronia arts and culture scene under the banner of Emmy-award winning arts and culture documentary series, “Artbound.”

Led the development of 292 articles and videos that helped chart the state of arts and culture in Southern California during the pandemic and social upheaval of 2020 under the banner of “Southland Sessions.” Many organizations featured were eventually shortlisted for the L.A. Arts Recovery fund months after.

Produced a four-minute video and two accompanying stories in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Wattstax, a celebration of Black joy, healing and community, held just seven years after the devastating 1965 Watts Uprising.

Led development of an expansive content package that consist of over 50 features, how-tos, guides and short videos. These stories unpack the complex, systemic issues surrounding the food industry for the food and social justice series “Broken Bread” hosted by Roy Choi.

Produced over 40 space-related content pieces meant to amplify the national PBS campaign “Summer of Space” in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Stories, illustrations and video clips were all meant to amplify the overlooked impact of Southern California in space exploration leading with the locally-produced documentary “Blue Sky Metropolis.”

Created an online space for the May 19th Project, a campaign to promote solidarity within Asian and Pacific Island communities and with all communities. Worked in collaboration with documentary filmmaker Renee Tajima-Peña and author Jeff Chang.

Led development of content highlighting the immigrant stories of food in Los Angeles and beyond for Emmy-winning food series “The Migrant Kitchen.”

Oversaw production of an oral history archive featuring 26 high-profile subjects such as Gloria Molina, Maria Elena Durazo and Kevin de León. The oral history project created for the documentary “187: The Rise of the Latino Vote” included in-depth profiles and complementary think pieces that show the impact of Proposition 187, a California ballot measure passed in 1994 that sought to deny public services to undocumented immigrants. The controversial measure helped activate a Latino voting base, transformed the California into a Blue and progressive state for first time and molded the careers of a generation of leaders.
